Chemical Treatments

A chemical barrier can be the one of the most effective termite management systems you can have installed to protect your house, and will always be our preferred method of preventative treatments.

What is a chemical barrier?

A chemical barrier is exactly what it sounds like, chemicals (Termiticide’s) that are applied to the soil around the perimeter of your home’s foundation to prevent termites access. Chemicals can come in all sorts of formulations and can act differently from one to the other, we steer away from generic products and only use the best.

Liquidators technicians are all Termidor Certified and use only Termidor and Termidor HE for chemical barrier treatments.

Termidor is a transfer (non repellent) chemical that termites pass onto each other once making their way through the treated soil. Eventually the termiticide will make its way back to the nest if it is close enough eliminating the colony and the threat of a termite invasion.

How is a chemical barrier installed?

Chemical barriers can involve a lot of work from a combination of trenching soil areas, drilling and injecting concrete covered areas. And in some cases installing in-ground replenishable reticulation systems.

Where there are exposed grassed or soil areas, our technicians will dig a trench along side your house exposing the foundations or footings. Once this has been done the termiticide will be applied by flooding the trench. The soil is then replaced and the process is then repeated to treat any untreated or reinstalled soil.

Areas that are covered with concrete will in most cases need drilling and injecting, or cutting if necessary. Drilling is a far more cost effective option that concrete cutting and can most often also be easier to return back to its previous state.

Our technicians will drill holes at specific intervals along the perimeter of the house through the concrete surface until they have reached soil or the foundation. The chemical is then injected via these holes where the chemical is then distributed throughout the soil and over the foundation.

Chemical treatments can also be applied through a network of hoses or pipes otherwise known as a “Reticulation System”. The reticulation system is installed in accordance with the Australian standard and is designed to apply the chemical without having to trench or drill concrete once installed.

Reticulation systems are typically installed prior to completion of construction and in some cases after or during renovations.

Once your chemical barrier has been installed our technicians will replace your soil or grass, patch or plug the holes drilled into concrete so that the final finish is close as possible to what it looked like prior to your treatment.

Termidor as the preferred chemical, will in most cases have a lifespan of up to 8 years, this is also dependent on the level of pressure your home is under.
